Index of Corona Satellite images of the
Rocky Flats Plant
The Rocky Flats plant, located near Denver, Colorado, is a
former nuclear weapons production site that ceased making nuclear
weapon components in 1989. The following photos were acquired
and analyzed at the request of the Colorado Department of Health
and Environment, which was conducting a study of the health impacts
to the surrounding population from releases of radioactive materials
and toxic chemicals while the plant operated. The purpose of acquiring
the photos was to respond to local citizen queries whether U.S.
spy satellites photographed the plant, and if so, could these
photos provide any information about releases from the plant.
In particular, we were asked to seek photos taken on the day of
a major fire in 1969 and determine if smoke plumes could be detected.
